On Saturday night, she explained to CNN’s Poppy Harlow the reasons why she won’t be in attendance on Friday morning.

Lee talked about Trump’s “denigration of women,” his attack on a Gold Star family and his insistence on building a wall between the United States and Mexico.

“I can’t celebrate what has taken place in terms of this president’s overall agenda and the divisiveness and his bigoted approach to governance,” Lee said.

She went on, “There are many reasons why I can’t celebrate on that day, and I decided several days ago that it would be very hypocritical to be there celebrating this agenda that he has put forth.”

As Lee continued to list the reasons why she can’t celebrate the new incoming president, Harlow tried to ask follow up questions but she was shot down each time.

Lee continued and decided to support Rep. John Lewis’s comments saying that Trump is not a “legitimate” president. Eventually, Harlow was able to ask about her support of Lewis.

Instead of answering the question, Lee went off on another tangent. Still, Harlow tried again and finally got an answer.

“When you look at the process, when you look at the flawed election, when you look at Russian interference, when you look at how this president was elected and what took place,” she said. “Congressman John Lewis has said it very clearly, and I believe that we should applaud what he said.”

“I stand with John Lewis. I think that the entire nation should stand with what he said,” Lee said.

As for whether or not Democrats should boycott the inauguration, Lee had just one more thing to say.

“I think that everyone has to make their own decisions based on their decision making process,” Lee said. “Personally, myself, I cannot celebrate this new administration.”
