Criminal Minds could be back in short order, after a long wait.

Fans of Criminal Minds can rejoice as it sounds like it is coming back. It is also coming back as close to in tact as possible.

The move wound itself through more than a year of hints, whispers, rumors. It also included, perhaps, some behind-the-scenes dealmaking, but Criminal Minds is finally set to return.

That’s right, Paramount+ has “given a formal 10-episode series order” for a Criminal Minds revival series, per Deadline. And six key cast members will be back — Joe Mantegna, Kirsten Vangsness, Adam Rodriguez, A.J. Cook, Aisha Tyler and Paget Brewster.

Perhaps as importantly as that, longtime executive producer/showrunner Erica Messer is also returning — which was a must for the actors.

“The actors’ contracts had been contingent on Messer signing a pact with ABC Signature where she is under an overall deal,” Deadline reported.

Negotiations had been going on since last year, with the sides getting serious just recently.

“The last several months were spent getting Messer and the cast officially on board,” the site continued. “(It) triggering a formal green light, with production slated to begin Aug. 21 in Los Angeles.”

Mantegna added to the excitement of Criminal Minds fans with a tweet, which pictured him on a soundstage “doing a little inspection today for an upcoming project.”

The original series was created by Jeff Davis and ran from 2005-2020. It follows the trials and tribulations of a group of criminal profilers who work for the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.

For those who want to catch up on the past 15 seasons, all are now streaming on Paramount+ and Hulu.

  1. I think it’s unfortunate that it’s going to come back under Paramount plus which is a streaming platform that one needs to pay for. As much as I loved criminal minds I am not paying for more streaming media.
