Fox confirmed the purchase of the brand from jointly-owned Savage Ventures and Clay Travis in a news release. The release added that both entities will stay on and operate the outlet. Sources close to the negotiations say that Travis also agreed to an updated talent deal as part of the purchase.

The infrastructure, editorial team, and operational aspects run by the Sam Savage-led Savage Ventures will remain through an undisclosed period.

Fox Executive Chairman and CEO Lachlan Murdoch was a leader in the negotiations and commented via a release, “As FOX further diversifies our growing digital portfolio and broadens our position in the sports wagering ecosystem, there could be no better acquisition than OutKick. Clay and his team have quickly made OutKick a content powerhouse with a very large, loyal and engaged audience. We expect the synergies presented across FOX’s existing portfolio of assets will turbocharge this exciting business.”

Travis, a former attorney, founded the site in 2011 after FanHouse was absorbed into The Sporting News. He is best known from a CNN appearance with Brooke Baldwin where he said that he only trusts ‘the First Amendment and boobs.’ The shockwave catapulted him to a national personality of which he capitalized on the sudden fame.

“OutKick has grown out of my passion for producing bold, well-informed, and entertaining content about sports, current events and, more recently, sports wagering,” Travis stated.

Fox said that it will allow the entity to act as an independent brand and leverage its content across its existing platforms.

Savage will remain an operating partner and his team will continue to lead the business operations and development of Outkick. He is the founder of Savage Ventures and former chief revenue officer at 247Sports. Savage also oversaw the operations of PopCulture.com and ComicBook.com. The Savage Ventures team is a Nashville-based venture operator that invests, acquires, and operates a high growth digital-first businesses.

The run of success for OutKick coincided with the partnership between Travis and Savage Ventures. The latter brought an influx of talent to the brand, social management, and allowed the editorial direction to be built around Travis as a centerpiece.

“With the power of FOX behind us, we look forward to maintaining OutKick’s unwavering commitment to that mission,” Travis added.
