Mark Harmon Pushing To Bring Gibbs Back To ‘NCIS’

Mark Harmon is teasing ‘NCIS’ fans about whether he will reappear in the CBS procedural after leaving the show last fall.

Mark Harmon is teasing NCIS fans about whether he will reappear in the CBS procedural after leaving the show last fall.

Actor Mark Harmon talks about the departure of NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs in a feature accompanying the DVD release of Season 19, Entertainment Tonight reports.

“What has always drawn me here is the character I play and to keep it fresh and to keep it challenging,” Harmon reportedly said. “This character has taken the path that it did. I thought it was honest and OK with.”

NCIS star Mark Harmon then said, according to Entertainment Tonight: “Plot-wise, this character has taken the path that it did. I thought it was honest and OK with.”

He also apparently assured fans in the DVD clip that his character is still alive.

“I’m not retired. … The character is living in Alaska as far as I know.”

You may know Thomas Mark Harmon better as Mark Harmon, the actor from St. Elsewhere and TV shows like NCIS and The West Wing. Or as the Sexiest Man Alive according to People. He is the son of Tom Harmon, a sports broadcaster and former actress, Elyse Knox. In his early years, he played football before pursuing a career in acting.

NCIS ranks seventh among the longest-running scripted primetime TV shows of all time. NCIS garnered — and continues to attract — significant commercial success. It too spawned multiple spinoffs, and its 20th season will air starting September 19.
