Matt Damon and Ben Affleck Reunite in ‘Air’ Trailer as Creators of Nike’s Michael Jordan Partnership

The new trailer for the dramedy-biopic, Air, was just released, offering fans a glimpse of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck reuniting on the big screen. The trailer also features some of the most popular fashion styles from the 80s.

The two-minute preview shows the two friends and frequent collaborators working together to tell the story of one of the best-selling sneakers of all time, Nike’s Air Jordan. The duo has collaborated on several other projects including Good Will Hunting (1997) and The Last Duel (2021).

According to a synopsis from Amazon Studios, “‘Air’ reveals the unbelievable game-changing partnership between a then rookie Michael Jordan and Nike’s fledgling basketball division which revolutionized the world of sports and contemporary culture with the Air Jordan brand.”

In the film, Damon, 52, portrays Sonny Vaccaro, a Nike marketing executive tasked with enhancing the company’s footwear line. The movie takes place in 1984, when Damon’s character faces the challenge of convincing consumers who have no idea “what the hell a Nike is.”

However, after witnessing Jordan’s talent, he takes a risk and puts all his hope on Jordan, who had just been drafted by the Chicago Bulls from the University of North Carolina.

“I believe he’s the future,” Damon’s character sstates in the trailer. “And I believe his story is going to make us want to fly.”

Affleck, 50, both directs and stars in the film, playing Philip Knight, the billionaire co-founder of Nike who makes the bold bet.

The description continued, “This moving story follows the career-defining gamble of an unconventional team with everything on the line, the uncompromising vision of a mother who knows the worth of her son’s immense talent, and the basketball phenom who would become the greatest of all time.”

Viola Davis, who recently achieved EGOT status, portrays Deloris, Michael Jordan’s mother, and her real-life husband Julius Tennon appears as James, Jordan’s father, in the movie.

“Air” is scheduled to be released in theaters worldwide on April 5th.
