10/31 Statement by Nancy Pelosi on Her Husband’s Condition

Since the horrific attack on Paul early Friday, we have been deluged with thousands of messages conveying concern, prayers and warm wishes.  We are most grateful.

Thanks to the excellent trauma care medical team at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, Paul is making steady progress on what will be a long recovery process.

Our family thanks everyone for their kindness.

Nancy Pelosi Statement on Her Husband’s Condition

On Saturday, Pelosi said that their family was “heartbroken and traumatized” by the attack on Paul Pelosi, “our Pop.” She thanked the speedy response of law enforcement and emergency personnel, who rushed Mr. Pelosi to the hospital. She also said that they were comforted by the following words from the Book of Isaiah:

“Do not fear, for I am with you.  Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you.  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

This is not the first time that Pelosi’s house and family have been frighteningly threatened. In January of 2021, someone spray-painted the Pelosis’ garage and left a pig’s head outside.

But this attack has left much of the world reeling, with many Congress people fearing for their safety. Political vitriol and circulating threats of violence have everybody on edge.

When Paul Pelosi was attacked in his home, Mr. DePape allegedly was calling for Nancy Pelosi.

““Where is Nancy? Where are you, Nancy?” he was saying after breaking the back door in.

As the New York Times asserted, Mr. DePape’s words eerily echoed those of the January 6th attackers at the nation’s capital. One man was yelling, “Where are you, Nancy? We’re looking for you Nancy! Oh, Nancy! Where are you, Nancy?”

Paul Pelosi called 911 while in the bathroom, leaving his phone on. The operator listened in on the attack and directed emergency personnel to his house. There, they stopped the attack, possibly saving Mr. Pelosi’s life.

He was left with a skull fracture as well as injuries to both of his hands and his right arm. Doctors are expecting a full recovery.

Attacker David DePape Had a Disturbing Social Media History

David DePape has been described as a troubled man with an extensive social media footprint promoting conspiracies such as QAnon. He also was repeating numerous prejudiced ideas towards women, transgender people, and Jews. Aliens, “satanic pedophilia,” and tech censorship were also common themes found in his online posts. Additionally, DePape wrote that the Holocaust did not happen and promoted Adolph Hitler.

One woman who knew DePape over a decade ago, Linda Schneider (65), described him as “reliable, easygoing and painfully shy.” Schneider was running a farm in the East Bay and said that DePape would help take care of her chickens and house-sit on occasion. She said that he used to make hemp bracelets and at one point lived in a storage unit.

After a few years, Schneider said that DePape was sending her disturbing emails that she interpreted as “very bizarre” and “somewhat dangerous.” They included references to himself as Jesus Christ. At that point, she ceased communicating with him.

CNN reported that another woman, Laura Hayes, confirmed that DePape was making hemp bracelets while living in a storage unit. She described him as “odd” and someone who didn’t like to make eye contact. Hayes also recalled that DePape said he spoke to angels.

DePape Helped Look After Another Woman’s Children Prior to Attacking Pelosi’s Husband

Another person who spoke about DePape was a young woman named Inti Gonzalez. She knew him because he used to date her mother, Oxane “Gypsy” Taub. DePape was like a “father figure” to Gonzalez, who also has two younger brothers. She wrote on social media that “there is some part of him that is a good person even though he has been very consumed by darkness.”

Gonzalez’s mother is currently incarcerated after being convicted of stalking and attempted child abduction last year. DePape continued to help take care of Taub’s children after she was incarcerated.

The New York Times reported that their family home in Berkeley “appeared run-down, with abandoned cars in the driveway and stuffed animals hanging in the trees in the front yard.” The Times also mentioned that two teenage boys, who “appeared to live there,” were talking to the FBI on Friday. A neighbor said that the house saw a lot of transients. It is unclear who is currently watching over Ms. Taub’s children.
