‘Pirates’ Franchise Working on Multiple Scripts: Margot Robbie, Johnny Depp Involvement In Flux

The Pirates franchise recently dropped Depp, which he alleges is due to his ongoing legal issues with his ex-wife, Amber Heard. Depp says that Heard’s accusations of domestic violence defamed him and as a result, Disney severed ties. Heard has not yet proven her case and neither has Depp.

Depp revealed in court that he would never return to Pirates of the Caribbean. However, fans have started multiple petitions to get him back on board, one with nearly a million signatures. Fans are claiming that the movies won’t be the same without him.

Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer recently told the Sunday Times:

“We’re talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts — one with her, one without.”

When asked if Depp would return, Bruckheimer replied “Not at this point.”

The thought of a female lead in Pirates of the Caribbean is enticing. It could potentially be a hit and would bring some new blood onto the scene.

Robbie is the recipient of numerous awards and nominations over the course of her career. She’s starred in films such as I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

We still don’t know if Robbie will definitely be the new lead in the Pirates franchise. But we do know that Disney is taking the possibility seriously enough to write a script just for her. Stay tuned.
