WWII Code Talker dies at the age of 92

One of the Navajo Code Talkers has passed away, the Navajo Times has reported. Ernest Yazhe was born in Naschitti, New Mexico and graduated from Albuquerque Indian School. After graduation, he joined the Marine Corps and was trained as a code talker with other Navajos. He served during World War II in the Guam and Okinawa camaigns, an experience he recounted in a video for the Utah National Guard. After receiving an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, he worked a variety of jobs before settling in Utah with his wife, Katie, who preceded him in death. He will be buried next Tuesday at the Camp Williams Military Cemetery in Utah.

The Navajo Code Talkers have become famous for not only their code, which is the only spoken military code to have never been deciphered, but also for their skill in combat.
