On National Geographic’s new show, Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, Natalie Portman had to drink water filtered through Bear Grylls’ underpants.

No, really. Grylls was teaching Portman how to traverse the slot canyons in Utah’s Escalante Desert, and they filtered disgusting sludge water through his underwear before boiling it to make it potable.
In the Season 1 Episode 1 teaser, you can watch Portman’s excruciating discomfort as Grylls concludes that the best tool for filtration is his underwear. He cuts it off without taking off his pants and filters the water through.
“I mean it’s not going to be perfectly clean,” says Grylls.
“That’s an understatement,” Portman responds.
After running the water through the makeshift underwear filter, Portman exclaims, “This is gross.”
But Grylls, of course, with his naturally jubilant demeanor, is happy with the results.
“Look at that! Perfect!”
Running Wild with Bear Grylls: The Challenge, is basically the survival show that everyone’s been waiting for. In the new branch off show, Grylls teaches celebrities how to survive in the wild and then tests them. Each episode features a 1-on-1 expedition where his guest needs to master essential survival skills and then “use in a high-stress situation.”
Business Wire explains that “this time, they will be tested beyond other guests: after Bear teaches each of them a key set of skills, they will then have to master them on their own and deploy those skills at a high-intensity moment to earn their extraction from the wilderness.”
