Actor and New York native Robert De Niro urged his fellow New Yorkers to open their wallets this week to raise money for the families of two murdered NYPD officers.

“It’s not only our brave policemen and women who sacrifice for us, it’s also their families,” De Niro told the New York Daily News, which has raised close to $250,000 for the families of Officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos.

“They’ve done their duty, and now it’s time to do ours,” he said.

De Niro is no stranger to fundraisers, having helped raise money for the victims of the attacks of September 11, 2001 and Hurricane Sandy.

“At times like these, New Yorkers know what to do,” De Niro said.
