In the latest WTF? involving the pop star, Britney Spears claimed the Catholic Church didn’t allow her to get married in one of its houses of prayer because she isn’t a practicing Catholic.

Britney Spears railed against the Catholic Church In a now-deleted Instagram message posted on Tuesday, according to Page Six.

“This is where I originally wanted to get married during COVID 👰🏼‍♀️ !!!!,” she reportedly wrote on Instagram. The post also featured a photo of Spears with Sam Asghari sitting in an unidentified Catholic church.

Britney Spears’ post continued: “I wanted to go every Sunday … it’s beautiful and they said it was temporarily shut down due to COVID !!!!. Then 2 years later when I wanted to get married there they said I had to be catholic and go through TEST !!!!”

A Catholic Church Responds To Britney Spears’ Rant

While marriage policies range from Catholic church to Catholic church, non-practicing Catholics are sometimes allowed to conduct their marriage ceremony in them. The Catholic Church’s general requirement is that the spouses-to-be must be already baptized, and one of the two must be Catholic.

On Wednesday, a spokesperson for St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Santa Monica, California, refuted Spears’ claim. According to TMZ, the rep said the church’s records contained no indication of Britney Spears’ alleged request.

Spears’ tirade came after she made a social return last month, posting pics on Instagram of herself nude in Paris. Those posts troubled some of her fans — as did another one she published Thursday. The post consisted of a large red box and contained no explanation.

Her Instagram followers expressed their concern in the comments section of the post. The comments included “I’m worried,” “Are you ok?,” and “Is this an SOS?”

Meanwhile, other Instagram users speculated that the post might be a tease for a new album.

As with all things Britney, only time will tell.
