Julie Andrews Opens Up About Recent ‘Sound of Music’ Reunion

Julie Andrews, iconic actress and singer, was recently awarded the 48th American Film Institute Life Achievement Award. She was joined by five of the seven actors who played the Von Trapp children in The Sound of Music at the award ceremony. Andrews recently sat down for a TV interview with Today to talk about the reunion, her life, and career.

Julie Andrews was joined by Angela Cartwright (Brigitta), Duane Chase (Kurt), Nicholas Hammond (Friedrich), Kym Karath (Gretl), and Debbie Turner (Marta). Together, they sang “do-Re-Mi.” The other two actors from the original 1965 Von Trapp child group, Charmian Carr (Liesl) and Heather Menzies-Urich (Louisa), passed away in 2016 and 2017, respectively.

Andrews says that she keeps in loose touch with the other actors from The Sound of Music. She says she was particularly fond of Christopher Plummer, who played Captain Georg von Trapp. Plummer passed away last year at the age of 91.

Julie Andrews said that thinking of The Sound of Music brings back a “very, very many memories: funny ones, real ones, lovely ones…” and that she and the cast keep in touch on birthdays and Christmases. She said that they bonded so much that they consider each other “family.”

When asked if she ever stops to think about her accomplishments, Andrews said she’s just too busy. She’s a mom and is continuously working alongside her daughter to write and publish books.

Also, in case you didn’t know—Julie Andrews plays the voice of a mysterious character in Bridgerton! Yes, that’s right. Lady Whistledown’s letters, when narrated, are voiced by Julie Andrews herself.
