Born March 9, 1969, Kimberly Guilfoyle is a San Francisco native. Her father immigrated from Ireland to the United States when he was 20 and her mother is Puerto Rican. Kimberly was raised Catholic, and part of her childhood was spent in Ireland. Her mother tragically passed away of leukemia when she was only 11. Her father was drafted into the U.S. Army but then became a real estate investor before passing away in 2008.

Kimberly Guilfoyle studied law at Trinity College in Dublin before working as a public prosecutor in San Francisco. She modeled for a variety of big brands to make money to pay for law school.

Guilfoyle also worked as the Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney and the San Francisco Assistant District Attorney. During her time as Assistant DA in San Francisco, Guilfoyle co-prosecuted the People v Noel and Knoller case. She and James Hammer successfully obtained a conviction in the second-degree murder case over the dog mauling of American lacrosse player Dianne Whipple. The case gained international attention.

“I became a prosecutor because I got my greatest joy in working with victims of violent crimes. I understood that profound sense of loss, and I could relate to it, and I wanted to do anything to help them heal by seeking justice,” Guilfoyle said in a 2015 Mediaite interview.

She added that the draw towards justice partly came from the loss of her mother to cancer. “Wanting to make sure the person who wronged them or their family, that there would be closure,” she said. “It’s so hard when you have a family member pass away, like cancer, it’s debilitating. But are you going to be mad at cancer? No.”

Guilfoyle Became a Household Name Thanks to a Long Career on Fox News

After leaving the San Francisco DA’s office, Kimberly Guilfoyle turned to media. She began her TV career in 2004 as the host of Court TV’s Both Sides program. Next, she worked as a legal analyst on Anderson Cooper 360 until she was hired by Fox. Guilfoyle hosted The Lineup then served as a regular contributor to several of the network’s shows. She co-hosted The Five from 2011 to 2018 and Outnumbered from 2014 to 2018. She’s appeared on many other Fox shows including Hannity, Fox and Friends, and The O’Reilly Factor.

Despite intentions to stay with Fox for the long-term, Guilfoyle abruptly left in 2018 in the midst of sexual misconduct allegations directed towards her. By then, she was already involved in a pro-Donald Trump super PAC, America First Action. Campaigning for Donald Trump became a full-time job from that point on. Guilfoyle worked for the Trump Victory Committee and became an advisor to Donald Trump during his time in office. She has also spoken on his behalf at the Republican National Convention, with her emphatic speech becoming the subject of many memes.

In 2021, Guilfoyle was widely criticized for making a speech prior to the Capitol Riots that called upon his supporters to “fight.” However, Guilfoyle has maintained her position as a MAGA supporter and continues to proudly advocate for Donald Trump and his son, Donald Trump Jr.

It may come as a surprise that Kimberly Guilfoyle’s first husband is a Democratic politician. She was married to California Governor Gavin Newsom from 2001 to 2006. At the time, Newsom worked as an investor and on the San Francisco Board of Supervisors. He was elected as San Francisco mayor in 2003 and again in 2007 before stepping into the role as Governor in January 2019.

When Guilfoyle and Newsom exchanged vows, the San Francisco Chronicle called them “the two hottest public servants in San Francisco.” The raving article about their high-society wedding, according to Slate, painted them as “the next liberal power couple.” Soon after, the public saw them as “The New Kennedys,” thanks to a 2004 Harper’s BAZAAR article labeling them as such.

Years after their divorce, it still is fascinating to the public that two people with such opposing political ideologies would have found love in each other. MSNBC’s Alex Wagner asked Newsom if it was “weird” to watch his ex be so closely interweaved with the Trump family, to which he replied, “Yeah, of course.” But there weren’t many other details given, aside from the fact that he hasn’t spoken with Kimberly for a while.

Newsom added that he and Donald Trump’s relationship used to be a bit more cordial. “We had an interesting, not as combative relationship, even though we went at it on a lot of issues we also found ways to get along,” he said.

“She was a different person,” Newsom later told CNN’s Axe Files with David Axelrod about his marriage to Guilfoyle. “She’s whip smart, and she fell prey, I think, to the culture at Fox in a deep way… She would disagree with that assessment. She’d perhaps suggest she found the light.”

When Kimberly Guilfoyle and Gavin Newsom agreed to divorce, they issued a statement together. “Unfortunately, the demands of our respective careers have made it too difficult for us to continue as a married couple,” they said. “Over the past 10 years, we have developed a tremendous bond of love and respect for each other. That will never change. We will remain close friends. We ask for your understanding and consideration during this difficult time.” Their divorce was finalized in February 2006.

In April of 2019, Guilfoyle was seen looking at wedding dresses in New York City. Trump Jr allegedly popped the question on New Year’s Eve of 2020, according to Daily Mail. But it wasn’t until New Year’s Eve of 2021 that their engagement was first publicly hinted at.
