It’s no secret that Leah Remini disagrees with the beliefs of the Church of Scientology. Although she was a member in her childhood, Remini parted ways with the church in 2013 — and her exit was grand.
The former “King of Queens” star has now told the unforgiving truth about her experiences during her A&E series entitled “Scientology and the Aftermath.” On Monday night, the star raised an explosive topic regarding the mysterious disappearance of Shelly Miscavige, the wife of Scientology leader David Miscavige.
“I do NOT know that she is alive,” she said answering a fan question via Reddit AMA.
Shelly allegedly hasn’t been seen in public for years. She was an avid member of the Church of Scientology, where the most famous member, Tom Cruise, regularly attends.
At Cruise’s 2006 wedding to Katie Holmes, Remini questioned guests about Shelly’s whereabouts, outraging the Scientology leaders. In 2013, Remini filed a missing person report with the Los Angeles Police Department, which was soon closed once detectives admitted that had met with Shelly in person.
Still, Remini is concerned about the well-being of Shelly. During Monday’s episode, ex-Scientologist Mike Rinder said that for a long period of time, Shelly was at a property the church owned near Lake Arrowhead in California.
“She was sent there when she displeased David Miscavige,” Rinder claimed.
Remini asked, “Why, Mike, why?”
He replied, “Shelly was privy to everything that went on with Dave.”
Remini vowed to follow-up on the police report in an attempt to receive answers.
“Even if she went on a program and said, ‘Hi, Leah Remini. Go f**k yourself,’ I’d be happy to know that she was alive,” the actress told the cameras.
As the series noted, the Church of Scientology has stated the police report was filed in bad faith. Leaders challenged the credibility of Remini, calling her program a “reality show” that is “nothing more than a scripted, rehearsed, acted and dramatized work of fiction.”
Scientology claims that Remini and “other anti-Scientologists in her program have been expelled from the Church for unethical conduct.”
On the other hand, Remini refers to her series as a “David and Goliath” mission. She told viewers that on her next episode, she will focus on the children who have been affected by “this abusive organization.”
She continued, “Once you know something, you have the responsibility to do something about it.
