Leah Remini says that Scientology’s biggest star tried to get her to stop a “60 Minutes” report Twitter/Leah Remini

Leah Remini’s eight-piece documentary, entitled “Scientology and the Aftermath,” will air Tuesday night on A&E, and there’s likely to be a lot of backlash from the clandestine organization. Lawyers representing the church have been writing letters to A&E executives in an attempt to discredit the “King of Queens” actress. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Remini said that she was “indoctrinated very young” and that Scientology “satisfies all the checkmarks for what a cult is and what brainwashing is.”

When asked about Tom Cruise, Remini said that “the church will go to any means to ensure that he stays in,” a statement that was echoed in HBO’s documentary “Going Clear.” She also said that she highly doubts any of the rumors that suggest that Cruise might be leaving the church.

Cruise has been the poster boy for Scientology since John Travolta went out of style, and Remini relayed a story about calling Les Moonves (the CEO of CBS) in an attempt to kill off a “60 Minutes” report that might be critical of the religion. She said, “I got a call from Tom to call Les and use my influence to squash the story.” However, the CEO reportedly told her “I will not engage in this conversation. […] I don’t give a shit if it’s you, if it’s Tom Cruise, if it’s Jenna Elfman.”
