On Wednesday, DeGeneres shared a powerful message with her viewers about the importance of getting along. She revealed that she filmed the segment the day of the election and didn’t yet know the result, but her message was inspiring either way.

“People have been very passionate about this race. And, I think it’s because we all love our country. We just have different ideas about what’s best for it, which is part of what makes America great,” she started. “If you take away the labels, you realize we are far more alike than we are different.”

The crowed cheered in response.

“For instance, no matter what your politics are, we all have that feeling of stepping out of the shower and realizing that you left the towel across the bathroom,” she joked. “Or we all do that thing when you pull into a parking garage and you duck your head to make sure you make it.”

All jokes aside, DeGeneres had a special and meaningful message for us all.

“We have so much in common, our differences actually make us stronger. We need to have the kindness and respect for one another,” she said. “Here’s where I make the exception: the people who leave the shopping carts in the middle of the parking spot, out of the country. Kick them out of the country! Bring the shopping cart back!”

To finish it off, DeGeneres shared a video of a bunch of cute animals playing together. Who couldn’t love that?

Whether you agree with the election results or not, DeGeneres’s words ring true for everyone.
