Singer Demi Lovato celebrates five years of sobriety with an act of selflessness

Demi Lovato gave back to charity to celebrate her fifth year of sobriety.

The singer marked five years of sobriety on Wednesday and celebrated on Saturday by hand delivering donations to various charities in Los Angeles.

The charities included an animal rights organization and charities supporting LGBT rights and adoption. She was joined by the CEO of CAST Centers, an addiction treatment facility in which Lovato owns a part of as she delivered the checks.

Lovato shared an inspiring to her achievement this week to mark the occasion.

“So grateful. It’s been quite the journey. So many ups and downs,” she shared alongside a screenshot of her progress tracker. “So many times I wanted to relapse but sat on my hands and begged God to relieve the obsession. I’m so proud of myself but I couldn’t have done it without my higher power (God), my family, friends, and everyone else who supported me. Feeling humbled and joyful today. Thank you guys for sticking by my side and believing in me.”
