Do You Remember ’70s Bombshell Susan Anton?

Actress Susan Anton made a career being a 70s bombshell, those big blond locks and long legs carrying her against the grain of mediocrity, even when her ventures failed. She is most known for being the Muriel Cigars spokeswoman.

Career:

A young not yet famous Susan Ellen Anton was born in Yucaipa, California. She’d always wanted to be a performer. Still, it wasn’t when she was 15 and made a trip to Las Vegas (where she now resides) on a bus with other teenagers setting out to discover an adventure that she got stars in her little southern California eyes. In her own words,

“seeing all those lights for the first time was the most incredible thing I had ever seen. I’m from this little town in Southern California, raised on an apple ranch, you know? I never saw anything neon in my life.”

She graduated high school in 1968 and won the Miss Redlands and Miss California beauty contests in 1969. The same year she was runner-up for the Miss America Scholarship Pageant.

After becoming the face of Muriel Cigars, she even landed a few television spots. ABC gave her a summer season variety series called Mel and Susan Together, starring herself and country singer Mel Tillis. After four weeks, however, it was canceled. But, not to worry, she was still listed as one of Time Magazine Most Promising Faces in 1979. And it landed her on Golden Girl, a film about a female Olympian, co-starring with James Coburn. This movie is also underwhelmed. She did continue to work with Muriel, however, lasted for many decades.

In the 90s, she was seen on many films and TV shows, including Baywatch, The Larry Sanders Show, Cannonball Run II, Murder, She Wrote, The Ben Stiller Show, Alfred Hitchcock, and The Love Boat. While she hasn’t been on television in proper acting roles, she was in a 2016 TV movie: Sharknado: The 4th Awakens.

Before she was a pageant winner or runner-up or even spokeswoman, she had wanted to be a singer. This didn’t come to fruition independently, but she did see some success with her “Killin’ Time,” a duet with Fred Knoblock, another country singer, did hit top 10 on the 80’s country charts. She now resides in Las Vegas, where she has found some success. She starred in Hairspray on Broadway and has hosted the Great Radio City Music Hall Spectacular at the Flamingo Hotel.

Love Life:

Far beyond being considered a golden girl, she was more well known for her love interests despite a floundering career. Which included “Rocky” Sylvester Stallone– while he was a married man. Her next was Dudley Moore, a British movie star. This was doubly news as he was way shorter than she was, causing lots of gossips. She was married to Jack Stein for five years but divorced in 1980. The next guy she married was Jeff Lester, a tv actor and they reside together in Las Vegas.
