In Detroit, Michigan, the viral dance most commonly known as the “Running Man” has just gotten a bit more viral.
Originated by two young men from Hillside, New Jersey named Kevin Vincent and Jeremiah Hall, the “running man” has managed to gain international attention from athletes, celebrities and the ultimate dancer herself, Ellen DeGeneres.
The Detroit Police Department kept the movement runnin’ strong in short four minute video where officers and other department members battled it out. They showed off their best moves like break dancing, the dab, and of course, the “running man.”

“We are part of the community; we are Motown,” Police Chief James Craig told Detroit News. “This is really about the image of the city and the department. When people see that we’re human, they’re more willing to talk to us.”
The began opened with the iconic “Spirit of Detroit” statute and concluded with an advertisement titled, “Join the best of the BEST Detroit Police Department.” Other cameos included Comerica Park, the Joe Louis fist with the Renaissance Center backdrop, and a neighborhood house proudly displaying the American flag.
“I’m glad I had an opportunity to be part of a great creation and the recruitment efforts for DPD,” said Officer Nicole Kirkwood of the department’s Public Information Office.
Officer Kirkwood and Officer Craig were both seen towards the end of the video break dancing.

Called out by the Los Angelos Police Department, Officer Craig said, “I’m calling out Cincinnati, New York, Philadelphia, Chicago.” He competitively continued, “LAPD needs a redo. And I called out New York because did you see their video? There’s nothing else to say.”
When the entire Detroit Police Department was informed of the video’s viral status, they couldn’t believe it had reached nearly 10 million viewers.
“This feels good,” Officer Craig said. “It’s certainly beyond my wildest dreams. I’m humbled.”
