For almost 40 years, Larry Stogner could be seen on local ABC broadcasts in Durham, North Carolina, and more than 30 years of that was spent anchoring the evening news.
Last week, Stogner took a moment to say goodbye by announcing that he had been diagnosed with ALS, an incurable neurological disease.
While holding back tears, Stogner thanked viewers for giving him the chance to have “the best job in the world” and expressed gratitude for the concern they showed over his degenerating speech.
“Some of you may remember me taking the ALS ice bucket challenge back in the summer,” Stogner said. “Little did I know, it was about to change my life. There is no cure. My career in broadcast journalism is coming to an end.”
For the next two weeks, Stogner will be vacationing with his wife. He’ll then return to the WTVD studios for one final goodbye.
