Savannah Guthrie has been with NBC since 2007 and began co-hosting Today in 2012. About one year after she started with the network, she met Michael Feldman at his 40th birthday party. It was October of 2008. At the time, Guthrie was separated from her first husband, BBC news presenter Mark Orchard. They’d gotten married in 2005 but officially divorced in 2009. After her divorce, Guthrie began dating Michael Feldman.

“I became a legal correspondent for NBC News in 2007, then White House correspondent in 2008,” Guthrie wrote in Guideposts Magazine. She was discussing the power of having faith in her life. “I met a man named Mike Feldman at a party, a political consultant who made me laugh. We fell in love.”

Feldman, like Guthrie, has been in the public eye for some time. He used to be a Democratic political aide to the Clinton-Gore administration. He worked as Vice President Al Gore’s traveling chief of staff and senior adviser. Feldman also worked as a legislative analyst for the Senate’s Democratic Policy Committee and a floor staff member for the Senate Majority Leader.

These days, Feldman is a self-professed “recovering political hack.” In 2001, he founded The Glover Park Group, a strategic communications consultancy. GPG evolved into FGH, a North American consultancy, and eventually went worldwide as FGS Global, a consulting and advocacy firm. Feldman is the co-chairman of FGS Global, which works with a wide range of groups (non-profit, corporate, advocacy organizations) and individuals. He’s also done consulting work for Johnny Depp’s legal team during the actor’s defamation lawsuit against Amber Heard.

Although Savannah Guthrie met Michael Feldman in 2008, they didn’t begin dating until the next year. After nearly five years together, Feldman popped the question to Guthrie. Ironically, Guthrie was on the verge of breaking up with him because she felt like they’d never get married. The couple was vacationing in Turks and Caicos at the time.

“It got to the point where no one thought we were ever going to get married — including us, especially including me,” Guthrie said on Today with Hoda & Jenna. Hoda Kotb was out on maternity leave and Guthrie was her fill-in.

“We were kind of at that point in life where it was like, we’re either going to have to decide to get married or we’re just going to have to love each other but let each other go,” Guthrie explained to Jenna Bush Hager. “I was like, ‘Sweetie, I love you so much, but if we can’t decide, then I think we’ve decided.”

Guthrie actually did break up with Feldman that day — or so she thought. But what she didn’t know was that he had already bought her a ring and was planning on proposing! He asked her to marry him that same day.

“That night, the sun was going down, and he was like, ‘Let’s open that Champagne they sent us,’” Guthrie continued. “I thought about it for about .2 seconds. I was like, ‘Yessss!’”

Savannah Guthrie and Michael Feldman married in March of 2014. Their intimate ceremony had between 80 and 90 guests and was held in Guthrie’s hometown of Tucson, Arizona. The newlyweds also gave an exciting announcement that day: they were expecting a child!

“It’s funny, ’cause we set the wedding date, I bought my dress, and then I found out,” Guthrie later said on Today. She was 4 months pregnant at the time of her wedding. “So, I’ve been doing a little praying that I would fit in it, and it all worked out.”

Vale Guthrie Feldman Was Born in August 2014

Vale Guthrie Feldman was born on August 13, 2014. Savannah described her new baby as having “blue eyes, a little bit of blondish hair and the chubbiest cheeks you’ve ever seen.”

“Mike and I are so overcome with happiness, gratitude and joy,” said the Today anchor.

Feldman shared his newfound joy of being a parent in a heartfelt open letter to Vale, published on Today’s website.

“When you arrived, it was love at first sight. The mind-blowing, world-altering, heart-opening, joy-filling experience of seeing you come into this world is impossible to describe,” wrote the proud papa. “I have a purpose now. It’s the most important job that I have ever had. And while I am new to this whole parenting thing, I promise that I will do whatever I can to protect you, nurture you, help you develop and grow into the best person you can be.”

Charley Max Feldman Was Born in December 2016

Vale became a big sister on December 8, 2016, when Charles “Charley” Max Feldman was born. “We are so grateful. Blessings overflow. Along with tears of joy,” Guthrie wrote on Twitter.

Savannah Guthrie later told People that she once thought it was too late to become a mom.

“I always wanted to be a mom, and it took us so long to get married — we dated for so long — that we thought maybe it was too late and we’d lost our chance,” she said. “When we found out we were pregnant, I don’t think there were two happier people on this planet.” She added that there were benefits of having children later in life when she no longer felt pressured to focus on her career.

Feldman and Guthrie Share Parenting Duties

Not every power couple can juggle their work and parenthood, but Guthrie and Feldman are like two peas in a pod. The couple told Reveal with Drew and Jonathan Scott that they had a perfect system especially during COVID, despite Guthrie’s odd work hours.

“Mike is chief technology officer and chief grilling officer,” said Guthrie. “He sets the alarm and gets up early every day to help me get ready for the Today show. And he sets up the kids for Zoom school. Then, about mid-morning, it’s my turn to take over for a little while so he can do his actual job, as founder of a strategic consulting company.”

“A fair amount of Savannah’s workday is while the kids are still sleeping. And that’s good on one hand, but then she has to roll right into Mommy mode, still fully made up, while I disappear for conference calls. So, she’s ‘on’ from when she wakes up at 4 A.M. until the kids go to bed at night,” Feldman added. “I’m in awe of her ability to create structure. I’m trying to figure out an acceptable time to have a cocktail, and she’s like, ‘OK, arts and crafts hour!’”

Feldman Is the Family Handyman and Personal Barbershop

In truth, Feldman offers a lot to their family’s structure, too! Guthrie told Reveal that he’s a great handyman. He actually fixed her toilet when they started dating and she found that to be “very attractive.”

“Our kids have a catch phrase, which is ‘Daddy can fix it.’ And it’s true. Daddy can fix almost anything,” she added.

That extends to also serving as the family’s official barber! Feldman cuts the children’s hair, and he does a fantastic job at it, too.

They’re Raising Their Kids with Dual-Faiths

Savannah Guthrie and Michael Feldman’s partnership extends to every corner of their life, it seems. For instance, they come from different religious backgrounds (Guthrie is Christian and Feldman is Jewish) but are raising their kids with both.

“We celebrate all the holidays! We light the Hanukkah candles and Mike is teaching our kids the prayers,” Guthrie told Reveal. “They love Christmas—the presents and Santa Claus. We know that difficult questions may be coming, but we’re committed to raising them with full knowledge of their backgrounds. We hope as they get older, the kids will be inquisitive people of faith who find their own path.”

Vale is now 9 and Charley is 6, and both children are obviously loving life! Feldman is a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan and making sure his kiddos follow suit! He and Guthrie often share adorable pics of the whole family, dressed in Eagles gear from head to toe. And just a couple days ago, Guthrie shared a snap of their brood hanging out at a Disney park.

“The magic is real,” she wrote.

Indeed, it is!
