Tara Reid Was Once Shamed for “The Ugliest Boob Job in the World”
You wouldn’t know that Tara Reid once had imperfect breasts by looking at the Playboy January / February 2010 double issue. The 110 lb, 34-year-old Big Lebowski actress is featured in 6 pages of topless photos, prominently showing her massive-looking C-cups. But she’d previously admitted to being cripplingly embarrassed about her body.
One breast augmentation surgery in 2004 resulted in breasts 1 size larger than she wanted. For over half a year, she had unsightly bumps around her nipples.
“First of all, I asked for big Bs [B cups], and he did not give me big Bs,” Reid told Us Magazine (via ABC). “He gave me Cs, and I didn’t want them. At all. Right after the surgery, I had some bumps along the edges of my nipples, but the doctor said, ‘Don’t worry. It’s going to be better.’ But after six months of ‘it’s going to get better,’ it started to get worse and worse… I was on the Web sites as having the ugliest boob job in the world.”
Tara Had a Botched Abdominal Liposuction Surgery in 2004
Tara Reid received liposuction on her abdomen at the same time as her breast augmentation. But that, too, went horribly wrong.
“I got lipo because even though I was skinny, I wanted — I’m not going to lie — a six-pack,” she told Us. “I had body contouring, but it all went wrong.”
“My stomach became the most ripply, bulgy thing,” said Reid. “I had a hernia, this huge bump next to my bellybutton. As a result, I couldn’t wear a bikini. I lost a lot of work.”
Tara Reid admitted to wanting the breast surgery because one breast was always larger than the other. And due to her weight often fluctuating by about 10 lbs, as happens to many women in Hollywood, she thought her skin was sagging.
But the surgeries that were meant to make Reid feel more confident about her body had the opposite effect. She said that she would date men who would directly tell her that “they look really bad” and she should “get them fixed.”
“Embarrassing,” Reid said. “I mean, you definitely need to turn off the lights, that’s for sure.”
Fast-forward to 2010, and Tara Reid seemed more confident than ever. The American Pie actress didn’t pose fully nude for Playboy, but she certainly showed off her breasts and abdomen. You’d never know that the woman ever had issues with her body image — although, it’s not surprising that she had a breast augmentation in the pictures.

What’s beautiful about Tara Reid’s Playboy pictorial, shot by Sheryl Nields, is that she had already spoken about her botched surgeries and insecurities in a very public and candid way in the past. The 2-day photoshoot focused on the parts of her body that she was once so afraid to show to the world. Indeed, it must have been an exercise in self-love, as well as vulnerability. She looks absolutely stunning.
Tara Reid is on the cover of the January / February 2010 Playboy issue wearing black lingerie and a white collared tuxedo vest. On her wrists are white Playboy signature cuffs. Inside the magazine, there are a few more variations of what Tara Reid was wearing on the cover. In traditional Playboy fashion, they could be pieced together to form a slow strip tease. She starts with black fishnets and the tuxedo vest ensemble. Then she moves on to an open white collared shirt, smiling at the camera from a studio.
Her 6-page section is entitled: “The Notorious Tara Reid; All grown up, Hollywood’s wildest child is unapologetic and undressed.” Next to the caption, she’s seen lying down on a huge fur throw blanket. She has on heels, a black bowtie-front pair of panties, large bunny ears, and a diamond bracelet. Her body is tanned, and her platinum hair falls around her breasts, which are perfectly even. Her abs look ripped. In the background are palm trees and greenery. The set was at a private residence in Santa Monica, California.
She Was Sober & Clean at the Time of Her Playboy Photoshoot
The article mentions that Tara Reid is a bit of an enigma. She’d struggled with substance abuse issues which became public and was in and out of rehab. But at the time of the Playboy pictorial, she was sober.
Several more photos show Tara on the same fur throw, which is covering a white piece of patio furniture that could be antique. Then she’s standing in the grass, wearing a pair of black lace underwear, and holding a black fur coat in her right hand. She’s still wearing heels, which display the slightest hint of red above her toes. The bunny ears are gone, but now she has a layered but elegant charm necklace.
In the next photo, Tara Reid is wearing a white fur shrug, black bowtie, and a pair of beige and black lingerie bottoms. She’s still topless, of course. Reid is sitting on a black iron patio table set upon the green grass, looking seriously into the camera lens.
But then the pictorial gets a little more playful. Contrasting the muted colors of green, white, black, and brown — almost a real-life version of a sepia filter — Sheryl Nields has opted for a more vibrant look. The green is brighter, and there is Tara, sitting on a white sheet, plucking red rose petals from a stalk. She has an impish smile as she looks into the camera. Tara’s wearing a Mardi Gras purple sequined beret and matching panties.
In the next photo, Tara’s lying down on the sheet with her legs up to the side. She’s looking over her shoulder. The red rose petals she was playing with earlier are now strewn around her. On her feet are some fabulous shoes, nude and gold open-toed stilettos with red soles and heels.
Tara Reid Once Said She’d Never Pose for Playboy Because of Her Body Insecurities
Tara Reid had once sworn off ever posing nude or for Playboy. “I know there are problems with my stomach,” she said. “There are bumps on it, it’s uneven, but it’s not that bad. My stomach scars are my battle wounds.” But an exclusive source told In Touch that the actress’s nervousness was only temporary.
“She was a bit insecure about her body when they first started,” an insider told the magazine. “She looked great and finally got into the groove.”
“I’m relaxed,” she told Us Magazine. “I’m a young woman with confidence … At the end of the day, I go to sleep knowing who I am … I’m happy with my life now, and I’d like to keep it this way.”
