SEATTLE, Wash. — There’s a new porcupine at Woodland Park Zoo; that’s a fancy word for a baby porcupine.
The baby North American porcupine was born May 15 and weighed just over a pound at birth, according to the zoo.
This is the third porcupette for the 4-year-old parents.
No word yet on the baby’s gender because it’s not that easy to find out.
The quills of the porcupettes start to harden within hours of birth; it’s the way the protect themselves against predators.
