A Canadian couple thought they were buying an adorable little mini-pig. They were off by well over 600 pounds, but love her just the same, and are aiming to use the attention their unusual pet has gotten to start and fund an animal sanctuary.

Earthporm reports on Ontario’s Esther the Wonder Pig, whom Steve Jenkins and Derek Walter bought when she was just a 3 pound piglet. But she grew and grew and grew over the following two years. Now she’s even a social media mogul, with a website, Facebook page and Twitter account. The things pigs can do these days.

But rather than making Canadian bacon out of their pal, she inspired Jenkins and Walter to not only go vegan, but also to build an animal sanctuary. An Indiegogo campaign last year to fund the project raised more than CA$440,000 (nearly US$360,000).
