Many country music fans might not know Jackie Lee’s name… yet.

But all it takes is one listen to this Brooks & Dunn song that he sung at the Opry to know all about his heart.

On June 18, Jackie’s heart was still hurting from the loss of his mother, LaDonna, who passed away just a few weeks before. “Two Saturdays ago on June 4 at 11:50 a.m., my mama went to heaven,” he told the subdued Opry audience about his mom, who passed away from cancer. “I love her a lot. She’s such a wonderful person.”

Jackie went on to invite a number of family members on the stage with him for the special performance, including his brother, sister and father, who sweetly accompanied his son on the piano. “If there’s one thing that my mom loved more in this entire world, it’s to hear us sing together,” Jackie said. “We’re gonna sing for her tonight… and if you don’t like this song we ain’t doing it for you.”

Jackie’s voice cracked a little, indicating the importance of this performance. Yet, once he began tearing into the lyrics of Brooks & Dunn’s hit song “Believe,” everyone in attendance knew in their hearts that they were witnessing much more than just another Grand Opry performance.

They were watching a heart heal before their very eyes.
