We’ve heard the story a thousand times. Thomas Rhett meets a girl named Lauren in high school. They fall in love. Thomas becomes a big star and writes a song to Lauren that makes every woman in the world even more jealous of their love story.
But on the night of April 3, that love story got even sweeter.
Because at the 51st Academy of Country Music Awards, that song that he wrote to the love of his life gave Thomas his very first ACM Award for “Single Record of the Year” for “Die a Happy Man.”
“Holy crap,” Thomas exclaimed during his acceptance speech. “My heart is beating a million miles a minute and I have lipstick on my lips from kissing my wife. This was written for and about you, baby.”
Thomas also went on to perform the song on stage – a song that Thomas told Rare Country means much to the happy couple. “We were going to try and see the northern lights before we went to Paris, and we were going to try to go to Finland but to get there was physically impossible, so hopefully we will get there and if we don’t, it just makes the song that much more powerful,” said Thomas.
