Miranda Lambert has turned in some pretty over-the-top performances on awards shows over the years, but there will be no fireworks or special guests when she sings at the Academy of Country Music Awards on Sunday night.

There will just be Miranda, her guitar and a very personal song, “Tin Man,” from her double-album “The Weight of These Wings.” It’s a bold move for Miranda, who just decided to do this acoustic performance in the past few days.

“I’m nervous. I’m terrified, is the word I’m using,” Miranda told Rare Country just moments after rehearsing her performance onstage in Las Vegas. “I changed my song at the last minute, like, less than 48 hours ago.”
The list of artists in any genre who can capture an audience with just themselves and a guitar is very small. Miranda pulled it off beautifully in rehearsal, and we’ve got no doubt this is going to be a standout moment from Sunday night’s ACM Awards.

For Miranda, it’s a way to really get one of the songs from “The Weight of These Wings” heard by a really big audience.
She adds, “I’m a singer-songwriter, and I feel like I have a record out that’s 24 songs, a double record. The only way to get those songs heard is to do them live and hope people grab on to it. I want to get as many of those songs out there and show what this record is. I’m accompanying myself, so I’m a little nervous, but I’m gonna do it!”
Miranda is up for several trophies, including Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year for “The Weight of These Wings” at the 52nd Annual ACM Awards. The show airs at 8 p.m. ET on Sunday, April 2 on CBS.
