It’s no surprise that Rascal Flatts might be looking to add someone into the fold after 15 years as a band…but legendary newsman Dan Rather?

Don’t despair Rascal Flatts fans.

No one is joining Gary, Jay and Joe Don.

But Rather did grab a tambourine and play a bit of the band’s classic hit “Mayberry” during a recent taping of the AXS TV show “The Big Interview,” which will air on July 28 at 8pm EST.

“We were so excited to have Dan out on the road,” said Joe Don Rooney in a recent press release. “To be able to offer such an esteemed reporter a look into our everyday life was an honor and I know we all really enjoyed talking with him and discussing things that are important to us as a band, as well as a little trip down memory lane, which is always fun.”

Besides some good ole reminiscing, the country threesome also sat down with Rather to discuss the current state of country, and the role Rascal Flatts continues to play in it.

“I believe country is a state of mind and not exactly just what you put in your tracks,” Jay DeMarcus says in a preview of the show.
