It may come as a surprise to learn that some people don’t know the difference between powerhouse singers Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood.

Sounds crazy, right?

Well, according to Kelly, the confusion happens more often than not.

On Dec. 7, the “Piece By Piece” singer caught up with Z100’s Elvis Duran and The Morning Show and opened up about the hilarious mistake that she finds pretty peculiar.

Kelly said, “This is my favorite thing. People come up to me all the time. We look nothing alike, we sound nothing alike, there’s nothing about us that’s similar, really, except we were both on ‘[American] Idol.’”

She continued, “People are always like, ‘I love your song, ‘So Small,’ and I’m like, ‘Thank you. Thank you, I think you’re thinking I’m Carrie Underwood.’”

Despite fans mistaking their identities, Kelly, 34, considers it a compliment to be sized up with the 33-year-old country cutie. She even refers to Carrie as “awesome.” But, Kelly isn’t the only one dealing with the mix up. As a matter of fact, some fans have thought that Carrie was Kelly.

“It always happens!” said Kelly. “A girl that worked with [Carrie] years ago said the same things happened to her. I think it’s because we’re both blonde and from ‘American Idol.'”

Regardless of the confusion, both hitmakers have plenty to celebrate, as they both have earned nods in this year’s Rare Country Awards. Kelly is nominated for Female Artist of the Year, while Carrie has four nominations including Female Artist of the Year, Grand Ole Opry Moment of the Year, Story of the Year and Tour of the Year for her Storyteller Tour. Voting is now underway at RareCountryAwards.com. Winners will be announced on Dec. 15.
