It’s been a while since Alison Krauss has released a new album, but boy is she delivering the goods with her upcoming project, “Windy City.”

For this album, Alison chose 10 country cover songs that capture a sad but resilient type of heartbreak. You can hear what she’s talking about in this YouTube clip of her performing Country Music Hall of Fame member Roger Miller’s song, “River in the Rain,” from his 1985 Broadway musical “Big River.”

Alison has also released the full version of the album’s opening song, “Losing You,” which was first recorded by Country Music Hall of Fame member Brenda Lee in the early ’60s.
She also included her version of Glen Campbell’s “Gentle on My Mind” and the Eddy Arnold classic “You Don’t Know Me” on the project.

Even though Alison recorded nothing but sad songs for “Windy City,” she doesn’t think the project will leave you crying in your beer.
Alison says, “It’s almost like you didn’t know it was [sad] because it doesn’t sound weak. It doesn’t have a pitiful part to it, where so many sad songs do. But these don’t. And I love that about it. I love that there’s strength underneath there. That whatever those stories are, they didn’t destroy. That that person made it right through it. I love that.”
Hank Williams Jr., Alabama’s Teddy Gentry and Jamey Johnson are among the famous friends singing with Alison on “Windy City,” due out Feb. 17.
