Reba McEntire’s new southern soap opera will now have a political bent

We are one step closer to seeing Reba McEntire light up the small screen in a new southern soap opera. ABC has ordered a pilot episode be produced for the untitled drama series starring Reba as Oxblood, Kentucky sheriff Ruby Adair.

According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” Reba’s character will find her Red State point of view challenged when a young FBI agent of Middle Eastern descent comes to town. He’s working alongside Reba in the wake of a horrific crime, and Ruby has to help him gain access to the secretive characters in the town.

Of note, this is the first time we’ve heard any kind of political bent being referenced with regards to the new drama series. “Desperate Housewives” creator Marc Cherry is the force behind the new project.
