It’s a heartbreaking image of a child still grappling with the loss of her mother.

Rory Feek of the Grammy Award-winning musical duo Joey + Rory recently shared a photo on Facebook of his 3-year-old daughter, Indiana, watching a video of her late mother performing a gospel music staple.

Rory poignantly captioned the photo, “Watching baby watching mama sing ‘In The Garden.’ Heartbreaking. Healing. Hard to understand.”

The child’s mother — and Rory’s beloved wife — Joey Martin Feek lost her valiant battle with cervical cancer just a little over a year ago, on March 4, 2016. She was just 40 years old.

Rory is now raising Indiana, or “Indy” as she is known, alone. She celebrated her third birthday in February, and her doting dad got her a piano as a gift, writing in his blog, “What do you get a child for their birthday who has everything? Everything that is … except a mama.”

Joey’s parents and three sisters traveled from Indiana to Tennessee to help Indy and Rory celebrate the child’s big day, and no doubt to fondly remember her sweet mother as well. Fortunately, Joey can always remain a familiar face to Indiana through her many beautiful performances and music videos captured on tape.
