Shortly after the Feb. 26 fiasco in which “La La Land” was mistakenly announced as the winner of Best Picture  when “Moonlight” really won, Sturgill headed to his Twitter page to share this nugget of wisdom. “Beginning to think I might have actually won Album of the Year… #Oscars,” he wrote. The tweet was quickly retweeted more than 1,800 times.

Sturgill was referring to this year’s Grammys, where he was nominated for Album of the Year for “A Sailor’s Guide to Earth” alongside fellow nominees Drake, Beyoncé and Justin Bieber. Yet, he ended up losing to Adele’s “25.”

Of course, the comment was all in good fun, with many people heading to social media to poke fun at the uncomfortable moment.

Don’t feel too bad for Sturgill – he didn’t go home empty-handed at the Grammys. “A Sailor’s Guide to Earth” was named Best Country Album during the Grammys’ pre-telecast ceremony.

“Six years ago, I was in Utah, working on a railroad, writing songs at night,” Sturgill said in his acceptance speech.
