This “American Idol” contestant just proved to Keith Urban that she has country soul

When Kelly Clarkson guest-starred on a recent episode of “American Idol,” she gave Tristan McIntosh some friendly advice – to sing a Trisha Yearwood song.

But on March 3, Tristan opted to sing something else.

Channeling Vince Gill’s 1995 classic “Go Rest High On That Mountain” – a song, which she dedicated to her grandfather – Tristan had all the judges on their feet.

“I don’t know what song Scott had you NOT do and have that one, but that was a good move Scott, because that’s a terrific song,” Keith Urban praised.

Tristan’s been tackling country songs ever since her “Idol” journey started. Allowing some of the contestants to outshine her, she’s gotten only considerably lukewarm responses from the judges. Now, they finally realize country’s where she belongs.

“You really are a country singer,” said Harry Connick Jr. “I love when you sing country songs, and I love that song.”

“I believe that that is the Tristan that America fell in love with,” raved Jennifer Lopez.

And yes, maybe she did remind us a little bit of Alicia Keys being behind that grand piano, but Tristan is all Tristan. Claiming her own territory on the seat in front the piano, the 15-year-old was in her own element peddling away at the keys.

Now, as a Top-8 contestant, if the “Idol” hopeful keeps bringing the passion and emotion into her songs, she’ll be unstoppable.
