When you can’t tell anyone about your troubles, that church environment can be the most painful of all places, though. You’d give anything to reach out for support, but you feel you’ve got to hide the pain and pretend everything’s fine.

That’s what Kelleigh Bannen is singing about in her searing new single, “Church Clothes.”

The song tells the story of a woman whose marriage is on its last legs with the couple considering a divorce. It’s Sunday morning and none of their friends know about their secret heartache. That’s why they’re wearing their Sunday best and putting on a united front for everyone else in the congregation.

It’s a lonely place to be, and Kelleigh’s performance of “Church Clothes” captures that heartbreaking situation beautifully.
