Doctor Caught Watching FIFA World Cup Match During Surgery: ‘Football is a Religion’

In the United States, soccer isn’t that big of a deal. At least, not when compared to biggies such as football, baseball and basketball. But in Chile, and most other countries outside of the U.S. and Canada, soccer is everything. So when a match is going on, the world just sort of stops. In some cases, every game is like Super Bowl Sunday.

Across the globe, there is no more popular or watched sport.

In other words, it’s really no surprise that some doctors in Chile watched and celebrated their team — all while performing surgery. It’s just that big.

Doctor Caught Watching FIFA World Cup Match During Surgery

Chile was playing Portugal at the time, advancing to its third straight Confederations Cup in thrilling fashion, winning on penalty kicks.

In the end, it was a victory for Chile. But we’re not nearly as sure about the patient. According to the Daily Mail, the man went under surgery on his “lower regions.” during the match between Iran and Wales, the man reportedly had asked doctors if he could indeed watch the game. So, after giving him some spinal anesthesia, doctors let him watch the World Cup on TV. So technically, it was the patient who wanted to watch, so let’s give the doctor a little break.

The hospital did release a picture of the event, which quickly went viral.  “Our patients just have a service All the gentlemen in the subliminal anesthesia are delighted ⚽️ pano️ #worldcup2022 #football #katar2022,” they noted.
