Fire Departments Are Urging People to Stop Cooking Steak in Their Toasters

There’s nothing quite like grilling a streak. Unless you toast it. Seriously. Some people are using a “hack” in which they put their steak … in a toaster. But it’s not a good idea, say those who work for the fire department. You can only imagine why.

Anyway, this steak-in-a-toaster business was on full display when a self-proclaimed master chef, who goes by Juliette on TikTok, showed how it is done.

But that doesn’t make it a good idea.

Among those who warned against the concept: The London Fire Brigade, which claimed toasters should be used to make … well, toast. Or maybe pop tarts. Anything else can lead to something you don’t want. You know, like your kitchen going up in flames.

No less than celebrity chef Gordon Ramsey weighed in.

“What are you doing?” Ramsey demanded to know. “Toasters are for bread, and right now if I had two slices I’d stick them on your ears you idiot”,” he adds, referring to his infamous ‘idiot sandwich’ meme.”

The London Fire Brigade was a Bit More Subtle.

“We’re reminding people to only use electrical products for their designated use,” the Brigade wrote in a tweet. “Don’t cook steaks in a toaster.”

According to the UK electrical safety website, more than half of all house fires are caused by electrical products (via Honey Kitchen), and many of those are the result of misusing those electric devices.

Moral of the story: Don’t put steak in the toaster. Unless, of course, you long to be in one of those “idiot sandwiches” made famous by Ramsey.
