If you look up “devastation” in the dictionary, you’ll see only a picture of this face.
That’s the reaction of “Jeopardy” contestant Monikka Mann who realized how close she had come to dethroning the 6-day champion Pranjal Vachaspati.
It all came down to the Final Jeopardy clue: “On his 1849 death, it was said he was ‘regarded rather with curiosity than admiration’ and ‘few will be grieved.’”
Mann got the answer right with Edgar Allan Poe, which bumped her to $15,100. Vachaspati, on the other hand, incorrectly guessed Thoreau. But because of his shrewd betting tactics, it only dropped him to $15,400. Meaning that Mann, for all you math whizzes out there, had only lost by a slim margin of $300.
