Getting to Know Steve Harvey

Currently, Harvey hosts two Family Feud programs. Now 65, he started as host of Family Feud in 2010 and as host of Celebrity Family Feud in 2015.

It’s reminiscent of some other public personalities who like speaking in the third person — or who simply love seeing their name in writing.

Steve Harvey famously rose from an impoverished household in Welch, West Virginia, to a lucrative career as an entertainment personality.

The Imperialist of Immense, Immersive Media

The combination of Harvey’s charisma and business acumen reached a tipping point with The Steve Harvey Show, a WB sitcom that ran from 1996 to 2002. He also had a syndicated talk show that lasted on NBC from September 2012 to July 2017.

Once Steve Harvey had become a familiar face in Hollywood, the game was on, to speak. He hosted Showtime at the Apollo from 1993 to 2000 and from 2016 to 2018. He also emceed the Essence Awards (2002 and 2003), BET Comedy Awards (2004 and 2005), the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Image Awards (2013), and Miss Universe (2015 to the present, excepting the year 2020 for obvious reasons).

Steve Harvey Comedy Club

Imagine that starting, say, 20 years ago, you were given the opportunity of a lifetime — but with one caveat. Take a sailboat devoid of sails, for instance, or a theatrical performance with no applause at the end.

Harvey got his start performing standup comedy — an occupation in which only the strongest (the very silliest) survive.

Having debuted onstage at a comedy club in Cleveland in 1985 (and going “home” to sleep in his 1976 Ford), it makes perfect sense that the ever-industrious Steve Harvey doesn’t have time for BS.

With that in mind, Harvey’s threshold for wasted moments — be jokes that fell flat or answers that didn’t come close to solving the pizza — is itsy bitsy.

Steve Harvey’s Latest Enemy

Of course, the contestants who play on Harvey’s myriad shows aren’t his enemies. But he sure will make you feel 1 foot tall if your answer reaches the level of dumbassery.

The gross-out factor reached a new peak on Family Feud last week when a contestant answered “their penis.” The gasp-worthy moment occurred during a roundabout what parts of the male body are bigger with most adult males compared to their 16-year-old selves.

In the comical clip, Harvey went completely silent after Secily gave her answer, causing the audience to roar with laughter. The camera then shows the Think Like a Man star searching for words, staring blankly at the notecard in his hands.

As his brain essentially short-circuited, Harvey staggered backward before dropping to his knees and placing his hand on his forehead. Secily laughed next to him, seemingly looking to see if he was okay before asking, “Not so good?”
