It’s Thanksgiving season, which can only mean one thing. That’s right, it’s time to smuggle stuff in turkeys. Or at least try if you desire to lead a life of crime.

But it often doesn’t work out, as the TSA pointed out, revealing it had uncovered a gun inside a raw turkey at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.

“We hate to beak it to you here, but stuffing a firearm in your holiday bird for travel is just a baste of time,” the TSA said, via The Hill. “This idea wasn’t even half-baked; it was raw, greasy, and obviously unsupervised.”

Basically, whoever tried to get the gun inside the bird, well, had a plan that went “fowl.”

Whether it’s in a bird or elsewhere, the TSA added, trying to sneak a firearm onto a flight is highly likely to lead to arrest and civil penalties that can cost nearly $14,000.

So, it seems, not being a bird brain this year may give you one reason to be thankful. Then again, that’s too much to ask for some people.

“Both fresh and cooked meats are permitted to be in carry-on bags and checked luggage,” The Hill wrote. “The meats can be packed with ice or ice packs, but the ice or packs need to be solid – if they’re melted, they will not be allowed through.”

Turkey, stuffing, pumpkin pay and other food can be brought through security as well. As long as none are packin’ heat, that is.
