There’s been quite a bit of buzz surrounding Pixar’s forthcoming movie, Lightyear. Tim Allen hasn’t said much so far as he’s not involved—Chris Evans will be the new voice actor behind the toy. But in an exclusive interview with Extra, OG Buzz Lightyear voice and persona from the Toy Story franchise, Tim Allen, finally opens up about what he thinks.

“I’ve stayed out of this because it has nothing to do, as I said a long time ago, we talked about this many years ago… I said ‘what a fun movie that would be’… but… It’s a whole new team that has nothing to do with the old movies.”

He revealed that he thought Lightyear was going to be a live action movie and he doesn’t think the plot solidly relates to Toy Story.

“There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody”

“There’s really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody,” Allen told Extra. “I’m a plot guy,” he continued.

“This was done in 1997. It seemed to be a big adventure story. As I see, [Lightyear] is not a big adventure story. It’s a wonderful story. It just doesn’t seem to have any connection to the toy. It’s a little… I don’t know.”

When asked if he thought the plot of Lightyear is veering “too off the path,” Tim Allen admitted that he doesn’t see a connection. He doesn’t think that there’s a solid connection to Buzz.

Tim Allen recently returned to the small screen on History Channel’s More Power. It’s an evolved and slightly changed version of his previous DIY competition series, Assembly Required. This is his first new TV project for over a year when he was last seen on Last Man Standing. Allen co-hosts and co-produces More Power along with Home Improvement’s Richard Karn. They’re joined by April Wilkerson from Assembly Required.

Tim Allen also has a new Santa Claus series coming up with Disney+. The limited series, The Clauses, already started production and is supposedly slated to be released around the end of the year.
