Will Ferrell and Cheri Oteri were an unstoppable force on “Saturday Night Live” when Oteri was on from 1995 to 2000. They had a couple of recurring characters, the Spartan Cheerleaders Ariana and Craig, who were the most spirited duo you’ve ever seen. They’ve been sent to cheer on a fellow Spartan at a chess match, and the irony of the whole thing is just great.

This particular skit ran in January of 1996. The two are just bouncing balls of energy and were even creative enough to come up with an entire cheer just for the great chess master Bobby Fischer. Now that’s dedication to cheering.

Naturally, the chess players aren’t too happy about the cheering, and when Glenn (the chess player) comes over to let them know about it, they go into more cheering. Oh, cheerleaders!
