Spring is the perfect time to spruce up our homes. But that’s not the only area of our lives that could use a serious cleaning.

Here are some other things to reevaluate during this time of year.

Health and beauty items: Check the expiration dates on products like makeup, lotion and sunscreen. If there’s no date, but you know it’s more than three months old, it’s time to say goodbye.

Clothes: Take a good, hard look inside your closet. If you haven’t worn an item once in the last year, give it to a local charity. (That’ll also free up space for new clothes you really want to wear!)

VHS tapes: Nobody watches them anymore! There are plenty of services that will convert old home movies to digital format. Do this to save space and preserve the memories.

Power cords: Throw away chargers to phones, tablets and other electronics you no longer use.

Single socks: Hey, it happens — we all own at least one sock without a mate. If that second sock seems to be lost forever, get rid of the remaining one.
