Not only is Johnson a 50-year-old blockbuster action star and retired professional wrestler (and potential presidential candidate?) — he’s also a food smuggler of sorts.
Stephen Merchant spilled the beans about the Rock’s strange eating habits during the making of 2019’s surprise hit Fighting With My Family. Merchant wrote and directed the movie, in which Rock played himself.
During a recent interview on SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s Jim Norton & Sam Roberts talk show, Merchant dished about Dwayne Johnson’s peculiar dietary habits.
“I do remember having a meeting with him in Texas just before a WrestleMania,” Merchant recalled. “We were in his hotel room just having this meeting about the movie, and the alarm would go off on his phone at, like 3:17, and he’d go to the fridge, and there’d be turkey and rice. And he’d have to microwave and eat it. It was so regimented. It was extraordinary.”
The Merchant got to the juiciest part of the story about Dwayne Johnson, who stands 6 feet and 5 inches and weighs 260 pounds.
“I think someone told me — maybe he even told me — that when he goes out for dinner with friends, he’ll have to take his food to the restaurant and have them heat it up, because it’s such a structured diet,” Merchant explained.
But hey, say what you will about Dwayne Johnson’s strange food regiment — he’s a hell of a lot stronger than just about anyone else on the planet.
The Rock’s next big project is Black Adam, a DC Comics superhero movie in which he plays the titular character. It is currently in post-production and due for release later this year.
