While squeezable ketchup bottles are becoming more prevalent in restaurants, some places still stock glass bottles. And, as any ketchup lover knows, sometimes it’s nearly impossible to get the product out of that kind of bottle.

But there’s actually a simple method of loosening up the ketchup and making it pour out with ease.

Researchers at the University of Melbourne in Australia have discovered a foolproof method for reaching the ketchup inside a half empty glass bottle:

1. Shake it up.
2. Whack the bottom.
3. Tilt the bottle.
4. Remove the lid. (Carefully!)
5. Pour it out.
