You’ve never used orange soda like this before

If you enjoyed eating Creamsicles on hot summer days when you were a kid, this cake has your name all over it. It contains both orange soda and orange zest, making it a real treat for citrus lovers.

It’s worth noting that, due to the soda, the cake rises much more as it bakes than other cakes. Don’t fill your pan more than two-thirds full; if there’s leftover batter, use it to make cupcakes!

You will need

Cake

  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 1½ cups butter
  • 3 cups sugar
  • ¾ cup carbonated orange soda (not diet!)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 drops orange food coloring (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Glaze

  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup orange soda
  • 1 tablespoon orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon orange zest
