Happy Father’s Day, Kurt Russell
Taking to Instagram yesterday, Kate Hudson shared a retro pic of herself with Kurt Russell, accompanied by a sweet message. “Fun, adventurous, passionate, determined, honest, devoted, amazing father and the best head of hair in Los Angeles!” she wrote. “Lucky us! Love you Pa! Happy Fathers Day.”
In the old photo, a teenaged-looking Hudson rests peacefully alongside her dad. And, of course, Russell’s signature tousled hair is on full display.
Kurt Russell Responds
In a comment on the photo’s thread, Goldie Hawn replied with a message from her partner — who has no official Instagram. Kurt Russell said:
“Birdie, mommy just showed me this picture, this perfect Father’s Day present. I’ve never seen it before. Wow…it’s a killer. Lotta water under the bridge…it’s kinda hard to see it though cause all that water seems to somehow have found its way into my eyes…thanks for making me the luckiest father in the world sweetheart. I love you, Pa.”

The Hudson-Russell Family
Actress Goldie Hawn had two children with musician Bill Hudson, of Hudson Brothers fame, during the late 70s: Kate Hudson and fellow actor Oliver Hudson. But Bill did not take part in raising them. As Hudson once said in an interview, her biological father “doesn’t know me from a hole in the wall.”
Enter Kurt Russell. Hawn and Russell began dating in 1983, after reconnecting on the set of Swing Shift; they’d first met while filming The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band back in 1966.
Although Russell and Hawn never married, the couple began co-parenting their respective children early on. In addition to Kate and Oliver, Russell entered the union with his own son, Boston Russell, from a previous marriage to Season Hubley.
In 1986, the family expanded again. Russell and Hawn had a son together, Wyatt Russell, the heartthrob-hockey-player-turned-actor. He is the pair’s only shared biological child but they also have have seven grandchildren: three from Kate, three from Oliver, and one from Wyatt.
Just one year after Wyatt’s birth, Russell and Hawn flaunted their chemistry on-screen in the 80s classic Overboard. Altogether, the couple has acted together four times, most recently in Netflix’s The Christmas Chronicles 2.
