Shocking Discoveries
The man revealed that he was adopted right after he was born and has never known anything about his biological parents. He also mentioned that he and his wife met “by chance” eight years ago.
The couple has two children together, a boy, 2 and a girl, 4. He revealed that his wife had fallen ill right after the birth of their son and she needed a kidney transplant. When they went searching for a donor, none of their family members happened to be a match. He then went through the testing process himself to see if he was a match. That’s when he made the discovery.
“I got a call the other day saying that I was a match,” he wrote. “The doctor then said something about wanting to do additional testing due to some information from the HLA (human leukocyte antigen) tissue test results. I didn’t think much of it and agreed.”
Decisions to Make
“[The doctor] explained that because of how DNA information is passed down through generations a parent to a child could have at least a 50 per cent match,” he continued. “Siblings could have a 0-100% match. It was rare to have a high match as husband and wife.”
Once the “abnormally high match percentage” was discovered, he asked the doctor what the results meant.
“Long story short, we’re related,” the man revealed.
“No I’m not kidding,” he continued, “I was put up for adoption before I was born. Placed into a family that moved across the country. I knew I was adopted but we didn’t have any information about my bio family. It was a closed adoption. I don’t know what [to] do moving forward but I know it may be wrong. She is my wife and the mother of our kids.”
