Turns out, some states have an advantage when it comes time for people to find remote work. Most telecommuting job listings on FlexJobs, an online job board, named a specific location where applicants needed live. Using this information, the site discovered the 15 states in the country with the highest number of telecommuting jobs listed in 2016.

Why would you need to be in a particular location if you’re working from home? Well, many employers looking for telecommuters want them based in a specific area for a variety of reasons, including taxation, training and regular in-person meetings. In fact, FlexJobs reported that about 95% of the telecommuting listings posted on their site included a specific location.

If you’re thinking working from home might be the next step for you, or if you’re already doing it but are looking for new work, there’s a lot to consider. You may want to check out these 25 employers with some of the best telecommuting opportunities to get started. To do that, you can see a free summary of your credit report, updated every 14 days, on Credit.com.

And, as we mentioned, it may be all about location. Click through to see the 15 states with the highest number of telecommuting jobs listed in 2016 (as well as some employers who are currently, or were recently, hiring telecommuters in those states) and find out if your location might be giving you an advantage in finding that new gig.
