You can never be sure when the next alien might try to call, so it’s a good thing to be ready. You know, just in case.

And now, we have some good news on that front. As scientists have prepared a “post-detection hub” to help make contact with extraterrestrials.
“It was increasingly evident that we needed a center to coordinate our efforts for an integrated provision to deal with such an event,” said John Elliott. He serves as an honorary research fellow in the School of Computer Science of the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, via Mezha. “So, with the encouragement of colleagues, I took the initiative and began developing the hub, to where it is now.”
This particular detection hub was designed with the idea of garnering the world’s reactions in the event alien life is discovered. That includes the reactions of sociologists, lawyers, media professionals and ET enthusiasts.
“The main issues are around bringing detail and agreement, as well as possible legal implications, to anything past the initial phase of detection, where the signal/discovery is confirmed as not human-made and from a credible extraterrestrial source, which focuses on receiving a signal,” Elliott explained. “All other foci in the current protocol are on general behavior (transparency of discovery and information), as well as initial indicators of the discovery’s significance.”
Theoretically, it will also allow the sharing of real information between countries, and hopefully, keep the fake news about alien discoveries at bay. It would also allow those on Earth t come up with a decent response if, you know, aliens actually made contact first.
“An extant intelligent civilization would pose many additional issues, such as ongoing societal impact needs and signal analysis,” Elliott said.
If aliens want to make contact with us, they will do it through a medium that is familiar to us. They will use the internet and social media!
